6th Grade Experience

A strong partnership between the school and family starts day one. By working together, students can build confidence and develop important skills that set the foundation for future academic and personal success. We understand that middle school can feel intimidating to our incoming students; that's why we host several events throughout the school year to get our feeder families and students acclimated to our environment!

We're here to support our newest Braves through this new transition!

Transition Events

5th Grade Visit
Each spring, 5th grade students from Fairfield, Lincoln and Washington Center visit Shawnee to meet students and teachers, try opening a locker, visit classrooms, eat lunch, tour the school and ask all the questions they can think of! Not a student at one of the above schools? No problem! Individual tours are always available, just reach out to our office to schedule a time.

6th Grade Orientation
Incoming 5th grade students and their families are invited to Shawnee to learn all about life in middle school! The evening event features performances by the band and orchestra, building tours, locker practice, meeting teachers, signing up for classes and much more.

6th Grade Transition Day
A few days before the school year begins, incoming 6th graders are invited to Shawnee to meet their teachers and fellow students. As the newest class of Braves, students receive their schedules and locker assignments, practice moving from class to class, engage in team-building activities, eat lunch and get ready for a great start to middle school!

Back to School Night
To celebrate the start of the school year, Shawnee families are invited to attend Back to School Night. This event includes schedule and locker pickup, games, community organization booths, teacher meet-and-greets, information about Yondr pouches and OpenGate, parent access help for PowerSchool and ParentSquare.
